It could be about how he failed in doing something resulting in a loss whether it be pride, honor, love, or just someone he knows/cares about but it could also be about how he has bad days too and he should be given the opportunity to be himself and protect himself. I can see where you lot are coming from when you talk about how it could be about him losing someone he loves and wanting to get back with them or something akin to that but it could mean a bunch of other things as love is not the only trigger to self hate/self harm. I do believe it is a song about depression, hate and self harm. They're still modern, but not enjoyed by the majority because they're unique singers that don't just sing about breakups.). But that's the kind of band Imagine Dragons is, because some people have crap in their life and not everyone writes songs about love, drugs, murder, and the nasty, unlike all modern singers on the radio (okay, not all modern singers, because: Shindedown, Simple Plan, Fall Out Boy, Avicii, etc.

This is a song about cutting, depression, suicide, and self-hate.īet that's not what you thought. He is bullying himself because others are and he believes it. It's him saying to himself "I suck, I'll cut and watch the blood escape for all of you that hate me, because you're right." When he says "So I bear my skin, and I count my sins, and I close my eyes, and I take it in" I think it means "I 'bear my skin' (he's getting his wrist out so he can cut it), I tell myself everything that's wrong with me (counting my sins) I close my eyes, take a breath, and slice my wrist, taking in the pain that I deserve." I don't think this song is a girl, it's him. "I'll bleed out for you" is not talking about a woman, or a man for that matter. He is talking about his depression, his sorrow, and his life. This song is possibly telling about the following.

Dan Reynolds grew up with a lot of dark turns in his life, hence Radioactive being about his overcoming of anxiety and depression. I think it's less likely to be about love.
